Hot box waxing is the best method to condition ski bases. Base prep ski wax deeply penetrates into the ski base in just a few cycles vs. waxing with an iron, which can take up to 20+ cycles for full saturation. Hot boxing results in greater base protection and faster skis.

Ski bases are made of a polyethylene plastic material (p-tex). Inexpensive, entry level ski bases are made of extruded polyethylene, which is formed into a sheet of plastic using high heat. Extruded p-tex has little ability to absorb wax. Performance ski bases are made of sintered polyethylene powder that's pressed together under high pressure to bind the grains of polyethylene together leaving microscopic spaces. These spaces have the ability to absorb wax, which is necessary to protect the base from damage due to the high friction created while skiing.

Waxing with a hot iron only allows a small amount of wax to be absorbed before the base overheats. Therefore, it takes many repetitions to reach maximum wax penetration. Skis in a hot box, set at 122°F to 131°F for 2-4 hours can safely absorb enough wax to fill the base.

Are you heading on a trip and don't want to carry your skis or snowboard on the plane with you? 

Well, We offer Tune & Ship to you domestic resort destination.

* Tune & Ship: Pick the type of tune you would like us to perform, When the tune is complete we will box your skis and ship them to the domestic location you request. When you are ready to return, place your skis back in the box, attach the return label that will be provided in the box and take your skis to the front desk of your hotel or any UPS dropoff location. Your skis will be returned to us or can be sent to your home. Prices vary do to Tuning service request, and UPS charges for two way shipping. Call for a quote and timetable.

Q: How often should I get my skis tuned?

A: At least once a year, usually at the beginning of the season or at the end of the season so they    are ready for when the snow flies.

Q: How often should I get my skis waxed?

A: As often as you can. The more wax you have in your bases, the harder your bases are. Hard bases are less prone to damage from small sharp objects like pebbles. AND more wax make you skis slide easier and faster!

Q: What does Hot Box Waxing do?
